Hello!
As a citizen of this (wonderful) planet, we should feel obligated to be informed and be motivated to do something about tragedies that are unfortunately handed to us.
AIDS is a large issue that affects every single one of us.
Even if you don't have AIDS, you still have a huge possibility of contracting an HIV; a virus which leads to the development of AIDS.
So, I would love to hear some thoughts on what we can do to spread the word, and educate others on the topic of AIDS.

I would like to think the world is aware of the huge threat AIDS has on society, but there are still people who neglect to understand the danger in their actions when doing things like sharing needles, or having unprotected intercourse.
ReplyDeleteThe big things have already been done to spread the word against AIDS, and aside from the number of things that are being done, it is still rampant.
We could - instead of mass-projecting the message of AIDS on to others through the media (and AIDS happens to be, from my perspective, the least advertised on television, especially compared to cancers) - get into the community.
It's not that hard. We make signs and donation boxes, and walk around town looking for compassionate people with coins to spare.
They won't need silicon bracelets, if they truly want to help.
There isn't much people can do these days to avoid getting AIDS except for what we've already learned. Don't have unprotected sex with random people, and don't share anything that goes inside of another human. It's logic but some don't understand. I also feel there isn't much way to help except to ask the right people. Many people will avoid giving money to charities, but there are compassionate people who will want to help, for whatever reasons, whether it's personal or not.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the previous comment, in the sense that although large organizations do help with the awareness, they don't necessarily do justice. I believe much more needs to be done in a community aspect. I think a reason for this is because there are a lot of organizations have been known to take people's money repeatedly, and unfortunately, it happens often with the elderly. I've witnessed it several times in my lifetime. Not all charities are valid, and I wonder if maybe that hurts the growth of real charities that are trying to do good. It's possible.
But anyways, I think if we were to just set up a box with a sign in the entry way of Independent, the outside of Canadian Tire, or anywhere where many people walk by, we would find at least a few people who really do care about the AIDS situation, and I sure as hell would love to take part in that. :)
